The children were offered colorful ice cubes made with watercolor paints and food coloring. Each ice cube had a popsicle stick handle to make the experience less messy.

During Summer Camp at IJP the children are offered many messy art and sensory experiences. These sensory experiences are all great for gross motor development.

One of the Kitah Alef children’s favorite books is “Thank You Mr. Panda.” In this story the panda gives each of his friends a gift wrapped in this colorful wrapping paper.

After finishing the loose-part wasp, Kitah Gimmel decided that the wasp needed a flower to accompany it.

For their final big project of the year, Kitah Bet-2 created their own papier mache plants. This project blends together their interests in plants with sensory play.

Kitah Bet-1 is very interested in Shabbat. To honor this interest Morah Mushky asked us to make Shabbat candle holders to display on Siyum Night.

The Kitah Alef children are really interested in books. They ask their Morahs to read some of the same ones over, and over again.

As a class, Kitah Gimmel decided to create a giant bug to feature for Siyum night. Their interests in bugs and cardboard lead to this provocation.

The children have been creating masks out of cardboard the entire year. They love dramatic play and are constantly playing family and hospital. Recently the children were also introduced to sewing.

This year the Kitah Bet children have been exploring various art mediums through experiences that engage their gross motor skills. They are building muscle while making art.

The Kitah Alef children enjoy listening to stories. There are some books that they request for their Morah’s to read daily.

The children really enjoy both building and bugs. These interests inspired this provocation.

The children continue their exploration of clay. They were each given a ball of clay to flatten with rolling pins.

The children have been weaving and sewing. We wanted to continue that thread of interest into their Passover art.

The children made pillows for their Passover Seder.

For Pesach the children created their own salt dishes out of clay. In the Atelier, the children were each given a ball of air dry clay.

The children each created their own Seder trays for Pesach. In the Atelier, they were given the same acrylic flow paints that they used for their auction canvas.

The Kitah Alef children have been exploring clay for a couple months. This medium was introduced following a long study of paint.

For Purim, Morah Mushky had the idea to make Search and Find bottles to double as their graggers. First, the children were offered three trays of rice. Each tray had a different color dye added to it.

This year the Kitah Gimmel children have created a lot of collage-type artwork. They also have a strong interest in nature. These interests led to the creation of their Mosaic Mirror for the auction. 

Since the children in Kitah Daled enjoy building and sculpture, we decided to make wood block wall art for their auction piece.

The Kitah Bet-1 children have been exploring paint and movement this year. Honoring these interests, the children were offered a large canvas on which to create a drip painting.

For Purim, the children of Kitah Alef created graggers. During art, the children were each given a wooden ring to paint with dot markers.

The Kitah Gimmel children are extremely interested in nature and sticks.This led us to create graggers out of bamboo. Someone donated several branches of bamboo to the school.

For Purim, the Kitah Bet-2 children made rain sticks. In the Atelier, they were each presented with a cardboard mailing tube.
