For the Shabbat Dinner, the Pre-Kitah Alef children painted challah covers. During Art class, one on one, the children were presented with a white cloth napkin in a large Ziplock bag with grapes (pom-poms soaked in beet juice.) The children were offered wooden rolling pins and mallets to mash the “grapes,” staining their napkins with the purple juice. This experience was inspired by Morah Rebecca’s observation that the children enjoy hammering and drumming. These types of activities strengthen the children’s gross motor skills.
