Kitah Daled’s Webbed Sukkah Decorations

Kitah Daled made Sukkah decorations inspired by spider webs and a recent yarn-wrapping project. In the Atelier, each child was given a wooden embroidery hoop. They were offered wire, rainbow tinsel, zip ties, buttons, and beads to use to create a webbed design. The children first selected a variety of wires (twist ties, floral, electrical) to wrap around and through their hoops. 

They zig-zagged and criss-crossed their wires. Some children looped zip ties around the edge of their hoops and strung their wires through those loops. After creating their webs, the children selected buttons and beads, strung them onto wires and zip ties, hanging them from the bottom of their hoops. Zeke strung several buttons onto golden twist-ties and added them into his web, as if they were prey, caught by a spider. While the children were working, we talked about dream catchers and spider webs, the inspirations for this project. The children had the option to add rainbow tinsel as a final touch. Many of the children added a sort of tassel of the material hanging off the bottom of the hoop. We took a handful of the material, wrapped a wire around it, then wrapped the offer end of the wire around the hoop. Some children just selected their tinsel piece by piece and asked Morah to help tie it around the edge of their hoop.
