Kitah Daled’s Shabbat Napkin Rings

Morah Dawn had the idea for her children to make napkin rings for Shabbat. In the Atelier, Morah Jessica presented the children with six wooden napkin rings each. The children used liquid watercolors and pipettes to paint the wood, leaving a tie-dyed effect.

Next class, the children were offered two Shrinky Dinks each. The children drew things that reminded them of Shabbat. Max drew dots all over his sheet. “This is the salt for the Challah,” he said.

For our last session, the children were given back their painted rings and now shrunken Shrinky Dinks. The children each chose two of their napkin rings to adhere them to with Tacky Glue. The children were also offered a variety of small tiles, gems, and flat glass marbles. The selected a few each to decorate the edges of the rest of their napkin rings.
