Kitah Gimmel-2 Sculpts Vases For Shabbat

For IJP’s Shabbat Dinner, Kitah Gimmel-2 sculpted vases for their take-home art project. In the Atelier, each child was given a chunk of Crayola Air-Dry Clay. After softening their clay with a rolling pin, the children formed their vases around a plastic test tube. They used various clay tools to add texture. Many of them ended up looking like volcanos. Cooper said, “Mine is a snake.”

Next class, the children were offered a variety of brightly colored acrylic paints to coat their vases. Neima wanted hers to be all pink. Aiden J. said, “Mine looks like the earth.”

Finally, The children coated the dry sculptures with Mod Podge to protect the paint from chipping. They each chose a preferred color of glitter for added effect. On the day of the event. Each child will choose a flower to place in their vase.
