Kitah Gimmel Enrichment Builds the Old City of Jerusalem Part 1
In early November, our KG Enrichment Jerusalem building project initially began when we planned to build our own Kotel (The Western Wall) here at IJP. The Kotel idea emerged when Morah Rachel was thinking of a project to represent the “Oseh Shalom” page for our class siddur. This Hebrew prayer means “He who makes peace in high places, He will make peace for us. And for all Israel.” The Kotel is where Jewish people from around the world come to pray to Hashem. The children wanted to make a place were our school family could gather.
The morah showed children pictures of the Kotel and pictures of my own family at the Kotel.
“We could us rocks, a hammer, flower petals, wood, and holes for mitzvah notes…” the children said!
We then took a trip to the IJP office and asked Morah Sonya and Morah Rina where they thought we should build our school Kotel. We got two votes for building it outside on the lower playground stage! The children were then invited to ask their families to share what that experiences they have had at the kotel.
The following day, the children went outside to start on their blueprint designs at the “building site”.
