Collaging in Extended Day
Kitah Daled and Gimmel Extended Day children have been making collages for months. Often there is some sort of drop in interest or the children will lead us in a new direction, but the children are still very much intrigued by this medium.
This interest may initially sprung from the collage wall in the Atelier. There is a large wall-mounted easel with several containers of assorted materials such as: paint sticks, dotters, washi tape, scrap paper, and glue sticks. Hanging from the easel is often a large sheet of either mural paper or contact paper.
The children appeared to enjoy making designs with the Washi tape.
Following the interest, Morahs began offering the children this material, along with stickers, pens, markers, and crayons to make their own collages.
As the process evolved, the children were then offered dark paper and pastels to play with contrast.
The children were then given scrap paper and glue to cut and adhere to mini canvases and sheets of cardboard. Some children made surprisingly intricate designs with their arrangements of small paper shapes.
