Clay Donuts with Kitah Gimmel/Daled Enrichment
During the weeks leading up to Chanukah, Kitah Daled and Kitah Gimmel Enrichment children were offered clay. Morah Jessica first gave the children small balls of Crayola Air Dry Clay. Small plastic donuts and dreidels were also laid on the table for inspiration. Once their sculptures had dried the children painted them with acrylic paints and Mod Podge.
Next, the children were offered polymer clay to continue making donuts. Morah Jessica told the children these donuts were going to be smaller so that the children could wear them on a necklace.
On the table, there was also an assortment of clay tools, as well as some small items to use as sprinkles for the donuts. The children each selected two colors of clay from a variety of shades, one for the icing and one for the cake. Morah cut and passed out the selected shades of clay to the children.
The children used different methods to shape their donuts. Some rolled small balls and then flattened it slightly, creating a hole in the center with a skewer. Other children preferred to roll a short snake shape, then connect the two ends.
Last, the children flattened their icing color and added it to the top of their donut shape. They selected and pressed tiny brads, rhinestones, and hearts into their clay donuts for sprinkles.
The children followed this up by making a donut necklace for each of the Morahs!
