Kitah Gimmel's Nature Menorahs
The Kitah Gimmel children are extremely interested in plants, animals, sticks, and all things Nature. We wanted to feature this interest when making their menorahs. Morah Yael had the idea to make them ocean-themed.
In the Atelier, Morah Jessica presented the children with acrylic paint in shades of blue and beige to evoke the beach. As they painted, the children talked about how they were painting the beach and the sand. As they finished painting, the children sprinkled mica glitter and gold and silver foil over the wet paint. Morah Jessica then glued hex nuts down the center of each tile for candle holders.
Next class, the children are presented with pieces of coral, shells, selenite crystals, and metal sea-life charms. The children select their materials and adhere them to their tile using Weldbond glue. Once dry, the tile is coated with Mod Podge for permanence.
