Kitah Daled’s Recycled Sculptures

The Kitah Daled children are interested in building and constructing. They also enjoy problem solving and using recycled materials. In the Atelier, the children were presented with a variety of recycled materials such as lids, broken toys, zip ties, wire, rope, duct tape, and other odds and ends.

The children selected pieces that appealed to them and began creating. Some friends had an end goal before they started. Ezra wanted to make “Super goggles.” After attaching the two plastic rings together with wire, he asked Morah to help fit the strap around his head.

Carmi wanted to make a “gas mask for the hospital.” She also asked for help connecting the strap to the mask. Westley asked Morah Jessica to make holes around the edge of a large, clear, plastic lid. He said that he needed eight holes to make a spider. Some of the children let the materials speak to them. Abby selected some spirograph pieces. She noticed that the pieces had holes in them, so she began threading wire through the pieces and connecting them together.
