Kitah Bet-1's Menorahs

Observing the Kitah Bet children, the Morahs noticed their enthusiasm for painting and droppers, their interest in vehicles, and activities involving physical movement. We wanted to feature these interests in their Menorahs.

In the Atelier, the children pinched bottles of brightly colored acrylic ink, dripping and dotting the paint onto their tiles. They dragged small plastic forks through the paint to create spidery, spikey lines along the long tiles. Morah Jessica showed the children how to hold their tiles up vertically to make the paint drip down the tile, mixing to make new colors and patterns.

Morah Jessica then glued hex nuts down the center of each tile to hold the candles. Next art class, the children were offered small, sparkly black and white tiles, vehicle charms, small glass cabochans, and small mirrors. The children each chose a variety of materials and glued them onto their tile using Weldbond glue.

Once dry, the children coated their tiles with Mod Podge sprinkled brightly colored shell-paper glitter over the wet tiles.
