Kitah Daled makes Metal Menorahs
The Kitah Daled children are incredibly interested in construction and engineering. They also continue to be interested in recycled materials.
In the Atelier, the children each painted a long ceramic tile with brightly colored acrylic paints. They sprinkled shell-paper glitter, mica glitter, and/or gold foil atop their wet designs.
Next class Morah Jessica presented the children with an assortment of loose metal parts. There were metal belt buckles and pendants, tiny watch parts, chains, bolts, screws, metal handles and drawer pulls, plus a bunch of random hardware. The children selected pieces that appealed to them. Some children connected and stacked their items before glueing them along the sides of the long tiles using Weldbond glue.
Next, Morah Jessica glued hex nuts down the center of each tile to use as candle holders.
The last step was coating the tiles with Mod Podge for permanence.
