Kitah Daled Summer Enrichment

For the summer, the Kitah Daled children have been enjoying many messy, sensory experiences.

Bubbles

The children used non-traditional objects to make bubbles. They dipped colanders, fly swatters, and plastic mesh into Giant Bubble Solution. They also took turns using the Giant bubble Wand.

Slime

Next, the children made fluffy slime. They split into two groups. One group chose to make red slime and the other made blue.

The children mixed together school glue, contact lens solution, and shaving cream, food coloring, and glitter. They were pleased with the super fluffy texture.

Large Water Beads

One of the reasons we do messy-sensory play during summer camp is to help the children cool off in the heat. This time the children were offered large water beads in the outdoor sensory table. The children helped gather metal pots and pans and plastic cups to add to the experience.

Some of the children reminded the others not to squeeze the beads, because they could break.

After exploring the texture of the water beads for a bit, the children began sorting them by color. They created a farm stand and began referring to the containers of beads as different fruits.

Oobleck

This morning in the Atelier, the Kitah Alef children made Oobleck! Oobleck is a Non-Newtonian substance made of cornstarch and water. It acts as both a liquid and a solid. During Kitah Daled Enrichment, Morah Jessica presented the leftover mixture to students in the water table. The children mixed a couple more cans of cornstarch and water to expand the mixture so they could use the flow pan and streambed to direct the mixture to flow into the round water table placed beneath. The children enjoyed the texture of the Oobleck. They started off using scoops and a turkey baster, but soon ended up covering their hands and arms with the slime.
