Kitah Daled’s Mud Volcano

In Art Class this week, the Kitah Daled children made their own volcano out of mud. This continues the thread of messy, sensory play and sculpture.

The children were presented with a large plastic tub full of sand. They took turns pouring water on the sand. Next, the children mixed the water and sand together by hand to make mud. They then sculpted the mud into a mound. Morah Jessica inserted a small, plastic cup into the center of the mound.

The children then scooped baking soda into the cup.

Finally they poured red vinegar into the cup to make the lava erupt. The volcano ended up erupting many times.
