Kitah Daled's Clay Faces
Kitah Daled’s most recent self-portrait experience in the Atelier is a bit different.
This time the children use clay as their medium of expression.
“I made my glasses!”-Shimon
The children are each given a round, flat piece of clay and a bit more on the side.
They use clay tools and wooden skewers to etch their features into the circle.
Looking in a mirror, the children sculpted small bits of clay into noses, hair, and in some cases their eyes, and mouth.
During the next class the children are presented with their dried clay faces.
They are offered a variety of colors of acrylic paints and paint brushes.
Most of the children chose colors that matched what they saw in the mirror. Some children created more of an abstract representation.
