Kitah Daled's Challah Covers
For Rosh Hashanah, the Kitah Daled children made challah covers.
In the Atelier, the children were each offered a cotton napkin and fabric markers in apple colors.
Each child wrote their name on the napkin. Next they doodled bees, apples, pomegranates, and other Rosh Hashanah-themed imagery. Abie says, “This is my dinner table.” Ezra says, “This is a pomegranate.”
Next, the children painted with acrylic inks in the same color palette. They dropped a small amount of the highly concentrated pigment onto the fabric, then they added water on top of the stain to spread the color.
The final step was stenciling the words “Shana Tova” in Hebrew onto the fabric.
