Kitah Bet-1 Makes Honey Jars for Rosh Hashanah

For Rosh Hashanah, the Kitah Bet children made honey jars.

In the Atelier, they were presented with clay, clay tools, and apples (for reference.) The children were asked to sculpt their own apples. Morah Jessica showed the children how to roll the clay into balls in between their hands and on the table top.

The children really appeared to enjoy the texture and pliability of the clay. They hammered it with the rollers and tore it into small pieces.

Next, The children were each presented with a hexagonal jar, yellow and gold gel paint, and hexagonal stamps.

The children dipped the stamps into their paint and pressed them to the sides of their jar. Once the jar was covered, the children sprinkled gold, mica glitter onto the wet paint.

During the following class, the children painted their clay apples. They were offered red, yellow, orange, and green paint to decorate their clay. The children traded and mixed colors to create their desired shade and variety of apple.

Morah Jessica glued the dried apples to the top of each jar and coated both the apple and jar with Mod Podge.
