Kitah Alef Makes Oobleck

Kitah Alef’s Messy Summer Art Experiences continue! This week the children make and explore Oobleck. Oobleck is a non-newtonian fluid. It is a liquid but reacts as a solid when pressure is applied.

The children mix together cornstarch, water, and blue food coloring. They use plastic scoops, spoons, and even a turkey baster to stir the mixture and watch it drip.

They notice it feels “sticky.”

The children begin exploring the mixture with their hands. They scooped and poured the liquid over each other’s hands, watching it turn into a putty-like texture.
