Ice Painting with Kitah Alef

The children were presented with water-colored ice cubes in a variety of colors and were each given a half sheet of watercolor paper. Their papers were placed in a large bin to make clean up easier.

The ice cubes each had a popsicle stick handle so the children could paint without having to touch the ice. A few of the children noticed the resemblance to a popsicle and asked if they could eat it. The children each selected an ice cube and began rubbing it against their paper.

They cycled through each color. Their marks became more vibrant as the ice melted.

The children felt the ice cube. One child exclaimed, “It’s cold!.” A couple of the children even dipped their fingers into the melted liquid.
