Kitah Daled Makes Stick Lanterns

Continuing our theme of nature art, the children made their own lanterns out of sticks.

The children were presented with sticks and masking tape. They selected sticks and measured them against each other to ensure they were a similar size.

Next they decided whether they wanted to make a triangular shape or a rectangular shape.

The children used masking tape to connect the sticks together, wrapping thin strips in and out and around the criss-crossed sticks, binding them together. Morah Jessica hung a small light using wire in the center of each stick design, as well as a wire loop. Next, the children painted the sticks with a mixture of water and school glue. Then they covered all but one side with tissue paper. They each left the bottom window open so they could turn the light on and off.
