Kitah Daled Summer Enrichment (Part 3)
Kitah Daled cools down with ice and water during Enrichment.
Treasure Hunt Ice
Morah Jessica presented the children with trays of ice cubes with gems frozen inside of them. These ice cubes were poured into a small water table along with regular ice. The children were given wooden mallets to crush the ice and release the treasures.
As they began collecting the treasures, the children placed their bounty in a clear plastic tub.
The second day of this activity, the children were presented with two giant blocks of ice and frozen gems to hammer.
This was a fun way to cool down and kept the children engaged for a long time.
Fizzing Ice
The children were offered colorful ice cubes containing baking soda in the small water table. Morah Jessica passed out bottles of vinegar for the children to squeeze onto the ice, causing it to fizz. The children also used cups of baking soda with pipettes to transfer the liquid.
The children added shovels then began mixing the colorful liquid, scooping the colored ice into cups.
Squirt Painting
Recently, the children began painting drop cloths to be used as table cloths.
Morah Jessica offered the children squirt bottles of brightly colored watercolors to paint a drop cloth outside. The drop cloth was hung on the plexiglass windows on the lower playground.
The children took turns painting the cloth in pairs of two. They alternated paint colors and even came up with different methods. One child felt very strongly about swinging his paint bottle from down by his side to up in front of him, using two hands.
