Kitah Alef's Cardboard Excavator

The Kitah Gimmel children have been fascinated by the construction site across the street. It began with them commenting on the large (usually yellow) vehicles. Now the Morahs take them to watch the construction worker from the front steps of the school.

We decided the interest in construction should be reflected in Kitah Alef’s classroom. On Siyum Night, the classroom will be turned into a “Construction Zone.” The children’s favorite construction vehicle is the excavator. This also happens to be the one that they see the most often at the construction site.

Morah Jessica cut an excavator out of cardboard scraps. The children painted the base and the arm of the vehicle with yellow acrylic paint. They painted the window, wheels, and shovel with black acrylic paint. Morah Jessica mounted the excavator to the back wall of the Kitah Alef classroom.
