Kitah Alef’s Paints with Forks and Combs

KItah Aleph used forks and combs as paintbrushes for their second large canvas.

The children dipped their tools into black, gray, and white acrylic paint.

They made ‘swoops’ and lines with the paint as they gestured widely across the canvas.

“No eat art,” Emmet reminded his friends.

The children mixed the colors and created an array of gradients on the canvas. They also created a marble-like effect mixing the white and gray paint.

During the next class, the children were presented with an array of brown acrylic paints. They spread beige, caramel, gold, golden brown, and chocolate brown using combs and forks.

“I have lello,” said Noa dipping her fork into the caramel colored paint.

Rafa noticed that the brown reminded him of something. “Brown is chocolate.”

Benny shouted excitedly, “Railroad tracks!” He made two long lines across the canvas using his fork.

As Noa applied paint to the canvas using a plastic fork, it emitted a scraping sound. Noa exclaimed excitedly, “Making noise!”

During her turn, Eve discovered dried paint beneath the brown layer. “I found some! I found gray! More! More! More!”

Next class Morah Jessica offered shades of blue and green to apply atop the dried brown paint.

Again, the children used forks and combs as paintbrushes. Some children employed the splatter method. One child even got paint on her nose. The children found this hilarious. Addison said, “Zelda’s nose!” Zelda just smiles. Addison continued to point out the spot and Zelda’s grin grew bigger.

 “I’m making food.”-Addison

 “I’m making grape juice.”-Koby

Another method the children employed was dripping. Benny announced, “It’s all green!” They created puddles of the different shades of paint and began mixing the colors together. This created a sort of marbleized puddle. Many of the children insisted on using every color before they announced “All done.”

During their most recent art class, Kitah Alef children added the finishing touches to the canvas. They dipped swizzle sticks into light blue, light green, dark green, white, and black paint then dripped and splattered the paint all over the canvas. “Drip, Drip, Drip” Emmet commented while holding his stick over the canvas. The children then sprinkled silver foil over the wet paint.
