Summer Art in the Atelier Continued
Kitah Alef
The children were offered a gross motor art experience this week. A large plastic bin was lined with brown kraft paper. One at a time, the children selected a shade of temper paint to be squirted inside the bin. Next, several small plastic balls were placed inside the bin. As a small group, the children held the bin and tipped it from side to side to move the balls through the paint. As the paint mixed, it created a marbled effect on the paper.

This week’s sensory art experience was Bubble Dough. The children mixed cornstarch, Dawn dish soap, food coloring, and glitter together. Each child had a job. They enjoyed mixing the squishy substance with their hands to incorporate the ingredients. The result was a sort of playdough-slime combination.

The children have been building with boxes and tape. Initially they were stacking them to create towers. Then they discovered that they could open the top and the bottom to create a tunnel. Next, they began cutting doors into the boxes to make them into houses for the animals. Now they are connecting the houses with ramps and bridges.
