Nature Medallions in Kitah Gimmel

Kitah Gimmel is continuing their work with clay. This project combines their interests of sculpting and natural materials.

First, the children rolled and pounded circles of clay flat. Rachelli said: “I made a house.” She used a rolling pin to make a leaf impression in her clay. The children used skewers, needle tools, wooden molding, and cutting tools to carve designs into their medallions. Barak carved lines In his clay. “I was making a design” Dov said as he engraved lines with tools.

They chose pebbles, sea glass, petals, small shells, and leaves to press and print into their clay. Carmi said, “This looks like a face,” as she placed the acorn caps into her clay.

Once the clay had dried, the children painted their medallions with tinted Mod Podge in shades of green, blue, yellow, and purple.

“This is a pizza with a lot of spinach.”-Casey

They sprinkled Mica glitter atop the glaze as a finishing touch.
