Fine Motor Mark-Making in Kitah Bet (cont.)

Kitah Bet continues to explore mark-making in the atelier. Each new method the children practice helps strengthen their fine motor skills.

Dropper Painting

This week the children made art with eye droppers and liquid watercolors.

The children learned to pinch the dropper to transfer different colors of paint and drop them onto watercolor paper.

The colors made streaks and splotches as they landed on the paper. The colors blended together making new shades.

Watercolor Pencils and Pastels

Next, the children made art with watercolor pencils and pastels.

They explored different ways of using their tools. They dipped the pastels into water then drew thick, vibrant lines on the paper.

The children then tried the inverse, drawing with the dry pastel first, then running a wet paint brush over the drawing, blending and darkening the pigment.

They made lines and squiggles with the colored pencils.

They tried dipping the pencils in the water and watching the paint slide across the paper.

Then, they wet the marks with a paintbrush making some parts of their composition more vibrant.
