Kitah Daled’s Menorahs

The Kitah Daled children have many threads of interest. We wanted to honor as many of these as possible by reflecting them in the menorah project this year.

The children were first presented with long ceramic tiles and acrylic paints in winter shades. They chose glitter in corresponding colors to sprinkle on top of the paint.

Next class, the children chose from a variety of shiny materials that complemented the winter theme. They glued glass tiles and shapes, white pebbles, and crystals that they had previously extracted from geodes.

They also glued on small mirrors in many different shapes. As well as being shiny and reflective the mirrors represent our theme of Self Portraits.

The last step was writing Happy Hanukkah. The children had the choice to write it in either English or Hebrew. Morah Yael wanted to represent the thread of writing and literacy that the children practice daily in the classroom.

Morah Jessica coated the tiled in Mod Podge to protect the paint, then glued hex nuts down the center to hold the candles.
