Kitah Gimmel’s Mosaic Mirror
This year the Kitah Gimmel children have created a lot of collage-type artwork. They also have a strong interest in nature. These interests led to the creation of their Mosaic Mirror for the auction.
Morah Jessica attached a gesso board to the back of a large frame. A rectangular beveled mirror was glued down in the center of the board.
The children were presented with a variety of tiles in different shapes and colors. The began by building a border around the mirror with the longer tiles. Next, Morah Jessica showed the children that some of the tiles looked like leaves and petals. The children began creating flowers, bushes, and grass. After each session, the tiles were glued down using Weldbond glue. The children filled in the empty space with the different shapes, creating patterns and designs.
