Kitah Gimmel Honey Jars
For Rosh Hashanah, Kitah Gimmel made honey jars. The children were presented with clay and silicone molds of honey combs, bees, and hives to choose from. They pressed and rolled their clay into their chosen mold using rolling pins and assorted clay tools.
Once dry, the children painted their honeycombs and hives with acrylic paint in shades of yellow, gold, and bronze. These clay shapes were then adhered to the lids of the jar.
Next, the children decorated the glass part of their jars. They first dipped their fingertips into acrylic paint and pressed yellow circles onto the sides of their jar. Once the fingerprints were dry, the children used black and white paint markers and Sharpies to add details to the bodies of their bees. They used photographs and illustrations as reference as they drew antennae, legs, stingers, wings, stripes, and even facial features.
