Embroidery in Kitah Gimmel
The Kitah Gimmel children just finished a weaving project. Continuing the thread of fiber arts, Morah Jessica presented the children with small embroidery hoops, burlap, yarn needles, and a variety of embroidery thread. Morah Jessica cut the fabric and attached the frame. The children chose the thread that they wanted to use. Morah helped thread their needles. The children then started making stitches in the burlap. They made a stitch, then flipped the frame, then made another stitch. This rhythm was familiar to them from their weaving project. They had to pay close attention so they didn’t catch the thread on the frame.
Many of the children work quietly, only saying something when they accidentally stitch their thread to the frame. Barak noticed the lines he made on his burlap look like a cat. Shiloh said he wanted to add a gold string to his piece.
