Kitah Gimmel Makes Clay Beads

The Kitah Gimmel children enjoyed working with polymer clay recently. They have also been interested in beading. This week in the atelier, the children were presented with polymer clay in an assortment of colors as well as clay tools.

The children began rolling their clay into balls, cylinders, and pyramid shapes. Many of the children blended different colors of clay together, marbleizing their creations. Morah Jessica showed the children how to push a skewer through the center of their clay shapes to create a hole in the center of each.

Next, the clay was baked in the oven.

During the next class, the children were presented with an assortment of plastic, glass, and ceramic beads in a variety of shapes and colors. Metal sealife and transportation charms were also available.

The children were each given their clay beads to string together on stretchy elastic. Each child decided whether they wanted to make a bracelet or a necklace, then began stringing their beads together with selections from the table.

The resulting jewelry was a vibrant mix of textures.
