Paper making with Kitah Bet-2

Many of the Atelier projects that Kitah Bet-2 has created have involved processes that strengthen their hands and arms. The children have collaged, hole punched, and used masking tape in their art-making, previously. Paper making exercised many of these same muscles. We also included the children’s interest in nature.

First, the children soaked and stirred scrap paper and newsprint. Then, the children mixed together some of the wet paper, lavender seed, rose petals, and sparkly threads along with more water in a small, plastic hand mixer.

Next, the mixture was moved to a blender with gelatin infused water and the food coloring of their choice.

Once blended to a pulp, the mixture was scooped into a circular frame, and excess water was squeezed out.

Last, the circles were transferred to a large screen for drying. The children selected dried flowers and leaves and pressed them into their circles for decoration. These papers will be framed together and auctioned off at the Fun Run.
