Kitah Gimmel Makes Graggers

The Kitah Gimmel children are extremely interested in nature and sticks. This led us to create graggers out of bamboo. Someone donated several branches of bamboo to the school. Morah Yael thought the children would enjoy making rainsticks for their graggers.

Mr. James cut the bamboo into individual pieces for each child.

In the Atelier, the children sanded the bamboo using sanding blocks. They wore gloves to avoid getting splinters.

During their next art class, the children each painted their piece of bamboo with glitter glue. The transparency of the glue allowed the beauty of the wood to show through.

Finally, the children filled the graggers with rice. They each added about two small scoops, then glued a round piece of styrofoam into one end of the tube.

Last, the graggers were coated with Mod Podge.
