Kitah Daled Portraits (cont.)
Watercolor Portraits
The next project in our self portrait series was watercolor portraits. First, the children drew their faces while looking in the mirror using a pencil and eraser. Morah had them focus on where their features were located on their face.
Shimon-”I’m a superhero.”
Evelyn-”Look! I made my teeth!”
Each child had their own watercolor palette to paint their image on the paper.
Levana- “I made antennas. Those are my super powers.”
Some children painted themselves realistically, others took a more impressionistic approach. Some children even painted a fantasy version of themselves.

Rosie- “I am a lion.” Jules- “I have hair clips.”
The following project was nature portraits. The children first drew themselves while looking in the mirror.
Isabella-“I’m a scary monster.” Nathan- “I want two gold feathers.”
Then, they chose a variety of natural materials and glued them onto a sheet of cardboard in place of their hair, eyes, nose, and mouth.
Irving- “Look, I made my rosy cheeks.”
They glued items like: lavender seed, rose petals, pebbles, feathers, moss, dried flowers, leaves and acorns to create their portrait. Each of the portraits was entirely unique.
