Kitah Daled’s Rosh Hashanah Cards

For Kitah Daled’s Rosh Hashanah Cards, the children were presented with images of pomegranates, both whole and cut.  The pomegranate is an important symbol for Rosh Hashanah. Its many seeds represent fruitful abundance and the commandments of the Torah.

The children chose from colored pencils, pens, markers, watercolor pencils, and pastels to depict the fruit. Morah Jessica asked them to focus on the round shape of the fruit, first. Then the children began to notice the other shapes of the fruit, such as the crown at the top and the smaller circles inside. The children chose shades of red, pink, black, and even orange to create their compositions of large, round fruits rolling across the page with seeds and juice spilling out. Once dry, the fruit was cut out and glued to half sheets of black cardstock to add contrast.
