Playing with Contrast in Kitah Bet: Pastels on Dark Paper
Kitah Bet continues to work on building their fine motor skills in the Atelier. This week they are presented with oil pastels and dark brown circles of cardstock.
The children chose brightly colored crayons, gel pens, and pastels to mark their dark paper.
Some of the tools were longer, some were shorter, some were thinner, and some were wider. The children could even use stackable crayons that they could slip over their fingertips and wear like finger puppets!
Each tool made a different type of mark. The children switched from one medium to the next, testing what could elicit the most vibrant pigment. The pastels were the most opaque against the dark surface. This fact made them very popular among the children.
