Kitah Alef Paints with Water Balloons

This week during Atelier time, Morah Jessica presented Kitah Alef with water balloons filled with water colors. The children each chose a balloon filled with red, yellow, green, blue, purple, or pink paint.

Then, they stood over a white poster board.

The children then tried to pop their balloon by either squeezing or stomping on their balloon.

This was difficult for most of the children. The balloon would roll away as they tried to smash it with their foot. We figured out that if the children used one foot to hold the balloon in place, then they could use the other foot to stomp on the balloon.

Many of the children chose to take their shoes off so that they could feel the paint on their feet. Rafa said “It feels weird” when his balloon popped. Once each child popped one balloon, there were still several balloons left.

Many of the children went back for seconds and even thirds. Eve and Kai threw their balloons onto the wood chips squealing and they broke open, splattering paint. Yona squeezed her blue balloon, soaking herself in blue watercolor. Benny said “This is fun.”
