Salt Painting with Kitah Alef

Kitah Alef’s most recent sensory art experience involved painting with salt. First the children used droppers to release watercolors onto a sheet of watercolor paper. The children traded colors with one another. Some of the children dragged the tube of the dropper through the puddles on the page, mixing the colors. Morah Jessica showed the children how to tilt the paper to the side, leaving long marks across the page.

Next, the children were given a bowl of salt to sprinkle over the wet paint. A couple friend liked their fingers to taste the salt. As the liquid evaporates, crystals will start to form on the children’s paintings.
